Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the football scholarship of his family and service to the community. First his parents raised him by Lucious and Jessie Selmon, who lived on their Eufala farm. He was the youngest of nine children. Second football he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by Outland as well as Lombardi. Outland Awards. Through his three seasons as Oklahoma's first lineman they went 33-1-1, and picked up two championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship, and was recognized as the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree in Education. Lee Roy spent ten hours each week working as a volunteer throughout his time at college. After college he settled in Tampa where he played nine years with the Buccaneers were all-pro three times before launching a professional career. In 1988 he became an account liaison officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He as well worked for the following organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that the man was named among the top 10 notable young men of the nation according to the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds when he was a student athlete. He led the 1975 team. He was named associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida, in 1993. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 handed out its Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented it.
